POLICE have closed the A8 in Greenock due to severe flooding.
The road is shut in both directions near to Cappielow with traffic now being diverted up Gibshill Road and along Weir Street where there is a temporary one-way system in place to ease congestion.
Police are also re-routing motorists away from the bottom of the Clune Brae, near to the Newark Castle roundabout in Port Glasgow, as they deal with 'substantial flooding issues throughout Inverclyde'.
Sergeant David Wilson of Greenock police told the Telegraph: "It is fair to say that the police are dealing with substantial flooding issues throughout Inverclyde."
