DETECTIVES have said they are following a 'positive line of inquiry' after a probe was launched into a serious assault at a shop in Greenock.
The victim made his own way to hospital after being attacked in a Greenock shop, suffering cuts to his face and bruising to his body.
The incident happened in Lalley's shop on Auchmead Road at around 12.30pm yesterday.
Police said the 29-year-old was approached by two men inside the shop, who then punched him on his head and face.
Detective Inspector David Wagstaff, of Greenock CID, said: "There was a minor disagreement and words were exchanged.
"As a result, the two males seriously assaulted the victim by punching him to the head and face leaving him with a cut to his left eye and bruises to his body.
"He made his own way to Inverclyde Royal Hospital where he needed a number of stitches before he was released to go home."
Information about the matter should be passed to officers through the non-emergency 101 number.
