WEMYSS Bay butcher Mearns T. McCaskie has qualified for the national final of a prestigious competition.

It won the speciality burger category in the ‘Q Guild Barbecue Champions of Scotland’ event with its Tex Mex Burger, and now goes on to the British finals in Nottingham on May 15.

Owned by husband and wife Nigel and Helen Ovens, Mearns T McCaskie’s product was also chosen as the best speciality burger in Scotland two years ago.

The multi award-winning Shore Road shop – it is the reigning Scottish haggis and dual West of Scotland beefburger and pork sausage champion – was awarded membership of the Butchers Q Guild last year.

As reported last week in the Tele, Port Glasgow’s Robert Alexander Butchers won in three Scottish categories - beefburger, steak and speciality BBQ product – and will also be in the national finals.

It is the third year in succession that the Princes Street shop, run by Drew McKenzie, has been chosen as Scottish beefburger champion.
