A BRIDE-TO-BE from Greenock will turn heads on her big day — after organising a classic car convoy to escort her to the ceremony.

Vintage motor enthusiast Claire Stevens, 44, will be accompanied to Greenock Town Hall by a procession of rare Nissan Figaro models when she weds fiancé Michael Bradley, 54, on Saturday May 14.

The couple, who live in Overton, wanted to do something quirky to celebrate their nuptials.

Claire is in the driving seat and has organised the stunt — despite the fact her future husband is into scooters instead of cars.

The convoy will include her own classic Figaro as well six more from as far afield as Kent and Kilmarnock.

Claire is now gearing up for the big day and hopes it will be the perfect way to start their journey.

She told the Tele: “I’m a car fan but he’s a scooter fan. Mick has been riding scooters all his life too.

“But I came up with the idea of using my car as basically there was no question of me using any other car.

“I love my wee car, most of my spare time gets spent on her and I’m a very proud owner.

“It’s a wee car that just seems to make people smile and wave wherever I go with it and inspires complete strangers to come up and talk to me about her.

“So once it was established that I’d be using mine, the idea of getting some of the other lovely owners involved just gave a great opportunity for the few we have around this area to get together and, of course, the one coming all the way from Kent for a ten-minute convoy.”

The couple have been together for three years and have five boys between them ranging in age from 11 to 25.

Approximately 20,000 Figaros were produced in the late 1980s into the early ‘90s and it’s estimated there are only 2,500 in the UK.

A wedding is usually regarded as the biggest day of a woman’s life, but Claire is just as excited to see so many rare cars in one place.

Claire, who is a member of the Nissan Figaro Owners Club, said: “The club is a lovely friendly online forum where we all help each other out and give encouragement and tips for any projects each is undertaking.

“I’ve been into cars and bikes since I could drive at 18 and have owned a few classic British and American cars along the way.

“The ceremony is taking place at Greenock Town Hall and the cars will be driving from Overton.

“Preparations are all sorted really. Everything is falling into place. I’m really looking forward to the car convoy, that’s going to make my day.”

The couple will marry at 2pm with the cars expected to set off at 1.45pm.
