DOZENS of people took advantage of a potentially life-saving health check in Greenock – and some were advised to see their GP.

The annual Know Your Blood Pressure day was organised by Greenock Rotary Club in conjunction with the Stroke Association.

Three health professionals undertook free blood pressure tests and, of the 48 people who came forward, 12 were advised to have their blood pressure re-checked or to see their GP within a month – and three to see their GP within a week.

Club community spokesperson, Lynne Chambers, pictured, said it was a very worthwhile event.

She said: “Rotary clubs across the UK have teamed up with the Stroke Association for more than 10 years to offer this service to the public.

The test is quick, painless and easy, and in Greenock you are even offered tea, coffee and something to eat.

“We are grateful to Inverclyde Community Care Forum’s Your Voice, who kindly let us use their Clyde Square premises.”

The Stroke Association say stroke is the biggest single cause of serious disability and the third most common cause of death in the UK. They point out that high blood pressure is a contributing factor in over 50 per cent of all strokes.
