INVERCLYDE motorists are being warned that parts of the Erskine Bridge will be closed overnight for maintenance from Monday for around five months.

Most of the work will be done between 8pm and 6am, when one lane will be open in each direction and traffic management measures will be in place.

Transport Scotland is investing £3.25m to carry out lighting and electrical improvements, and the cable network will also be upgraded.

Andy Fraser of Scotland TranServ said: “Every day 42,000 vehicles use the Erskine Bridge. We understand the importance of this route, therefore we have done everything we can to programme the works overnight when traffic flows are lighter.”

Motorists can keep up to date with traffic information by visiting the Traffic Scotland website and following their Twitter feed.
