A GREENOCK takeaway has gone from serving egg fried rice to deep fried CREME EGGS — and it’s no ‘yolk’.

The unusual item has been added to the menu at Panda on Newton Street and it has proved to be a cracking idea with the vast majority of customers.

The deep fried delicacy came about after one regular asked for something different to the battered Mars Bar which was already on offer.

Owner Sandy Weng rose to the challenge and tried it with a Cadbury’s Creme Egg — and now the sweet treat is growing in popularity.

She told the Telegraph: “We do a Mars in batter on the menu.

“But one day someone asked for a Creme Egg and he really liked it.

“Other customers like it now as well.

“We put it on Facebook and since then people have come in and asked for it too.”

Deep fried Mars Bars originated in a Scottish chip shop in the 1990s and the dish has gained attention across the globe.

Now the people of Inverclyde can sample a new twist on the idea.

Cantonese takeaway owner Sandy, who lives in the town centre, admits the delicacy is not to everyone’s taste but says she is definitely a fan.

She said: “It takes people by surprise.

“Some people like it and some don’t.

“I’ve tried it and it’s nice — sweet, like a dessert.”
