A GREENOCK war hero has been given France’s highest military award.
Henry Bryce, 91, was one of five former servicemen given the Legion d’Honneur for their part in the the liberation of France.
Mr Bryce, of Dalriada Street, was a gunner on destroyer HMS Tyler, part of the 5th Escort Group that held the record for sinking U-Boats.
The Consul General de France, Emmanuel Cocher, presented his medal at a civic reception in Paisley Town Hall, pictured.
He said: “France will never forget the gallantry and bravery veterans showed in taking part in the liberation of France 70 years ago.
"The actions and sacrifice of these men, and that of so many who fell on the battlefield, was instrumental in bringing back freedom and peace in France and across Europe”.
Mr Bryce attended the ceremony with his daughter Lynne, sons Robert and Jim and granddaughter Claire.
