TWO teenage actors from Port Glasgow are on the yellow brick road to stardom - after securing a place in a new production of the iconic Wizard of Oz.

Fifteen-year-old St Columba’s School pupil Caitlin Anderson and Notre Dame High’s Cameron McGeachy, who is 13, will take to the stage at the Theatre Royal in Glasgow tonight for the first of three performances of the Oscar-winning film, which starred Judy Garland, above, in the 1930s.

The promising young actors are back at the venue for the second year in a row, after appearing in Bugsy Malone 12 months ago.

They impressed the audition panel once again and will now join a 75-strong cast for the Wizard of Oz, which is also on twice tomorrow.

Cameron’s mum Cate said: “I’m delighted he was accepted.

“He wasn’t very confident about his audition this year at all so he was delighted when he got the call.

“It was a pleasant surprise.”

Cameron and Caitlin have been rehearsing intensively in Glasgow for the last fortnight and they cannot wait to strut their stuff on stage this evening.

Caitlin’s dad, Michael, told the Tele: “They’ve been up every day this week and last week rehearsing.

“Caitlin can’t wait for it, she’s delighted to be taking part.

“She’s put in a lot of hard work.

“Caitlin’s been in various drama things since she was four and I’m so proud of her.”

The Wizard of Oz is on at the Theatre Royal, Glasgow, at 7pm tonight and tomorrow and there will also be a Saturday matinee performance at 2pm.
