A 20-YEAR-OLD man needed hospital treatment after he was seriously assaulted in Greenock early this morning.
The victim was within a taxi which had stopped in the town's Garvel Drive at 3.30am when another man opened one of the vehicle's doors and attacked him.
The injured male sustained a cut above one of his eyebrows in the incident which required to be treated with stitches at Inverclyde Royal Hospital.
Detectives investigating the assault say that it is unclear at the moment whether or not a weapon was used.
A spokesman for Greenock CID told the Telegraph: "We are following a positive line of inquiry.
"However, we will be knocking on doors in Garvel Drive today and would ask anyone with information about this incident to come forward."
Police can be contacted via the 101 number.
