TEACHERS at a Greenock primary school welcomed their own magnificent seven for the new term yesterday — all from the same family.

First day nerves bypassed two little cousins as they were greeted at the gates of St Mary’s by five relatives who are already pupils at the school.

Pint-sized pupils Lara Cowden and her cousin Olivia McCabe became the sixth and seventh members of their family enrolled at the primary.

It means there are now seven members of their family at the school, spread all the way from primary one through to primary seven.

Little Lara told the Telegraph she was excited to become the latest chapter of the family affair.

The five-year-old said: “I’m really looking forward to going to school and playing in my new classroom.”

Her parents Jacqueline and Graham, of Newark Street, were bursting with pride as they watched their daughter skip into school under the watchful eye of her family members.

Graham, who is a team manager at EE, took a day’s holiday so that he could wave his daughter off on her first day.

He said: “It’s fantastic that they are all together and it makes it easier for Lara and Olivia as they start P1.

“There are three primary one classes and they are in the same class, which will help them settle in.

“It’s great that there are now seven family member in the school from P7 down to P1.

“The teachers have been asking how many more are to come — it’s become a standing joke.”

Little Lara joins her older brother Matthew, 10, at the school.

Her cousin Olivia, who is also five, has an older brother Ewan, seven, enrolled.

They were waved off by their parents Stephen and Jennifer McCabe.

Also in the family line up are their cousins Madeline McCabe, 11, and her twin brothers Finlay and Jacob, who are both aged six.

Their parents are June and Brian McCabe.

Lara’s dad Graham says their family is pretty big.

He added: “There are about 37 of us in the extended family. We are related through my wife Jacqueline’s two brothers.”
