IT was hair today gone tomorrow for a Greenock couple who together lopped 20 inches off their locks for charity.

Elaine Dickinson, 24, and her husband Martin, 28, both of Burns Road, decided to have their hair cut in aid of the Little Princess Trust — a charity that makes wigs and hair pieces for children who suffer hair loss due to cancer treatment or alopecia.

Elaine, who runs Little Paws, a dog grooming business based at Battery Park, said the charity is very close to their hearts as the couple have friends and family who have suffered from hair loss.

She told the Tele: “One of my friends had cancer and one of my relatives had alopecia.

“My friend who had cancer decided to shave off her hair.

“She got a wig and she was so much happier as when she lost her hair people would treat her differently.

“She got the all clear and is doing really well now.

“One of my male family members had alopecia, and even though he is a guy, it still had a huge impact.”

Elaine said she grew her hair especially for the charity.

She added: “I grew it first for my wedding, but when I realised it was almost long enough to be donated, I kept it going.”

Martin, who works for retailer GAME, said he was happy to do his bit for such a worthy cause.

He said: “I’ve always had long hair but when Elaine asked if I wanted to donate it, I thought it was a great idea.”

As well as giving their locks for wigs, the couple are also aiming to raise around £400 for the charity.

Elaine said: “We’re hoping to reach that amount as that will cover the cost of getting one wig tailor-made.”

The couple are keen to thank Maria Frankgate, at George Square Hair and Beauty in Greenock, who carried out their haircuts.
