BIG-HEARTED Tesco charity staff ‘clubbed’ together to hand over a new TV to nursing home residents.

Tesco Community Champion Lorella Sutherland and Mary Barilli, filling station manager, were disgusted when they hear a television had been stolen from Merino Court in Greenock.

This comes only weeks after garden furniture had also been taken from the home in Drumfrochar Road.

Mary said: “We heard about the garden furniture had been stolen and then the second occasion when the television was stolen from the lounge on the ground floor.

“We wanted to do something to help because Tesco is really committed to helping the community.”

Residents can now enjoy watching their favourite programmes on their top-of-the-range 40 inch flat screen TV worth more than £400 — and enjoy the outdoor space with their new rattan table and chairs set costing £200.
Resident Catherine Smith went along to accept the gifts on the home’s behalf.

Catherine, 84, said: “The television is lovely.”

Caron McAlpine, activities co-ordinator at Merino Court Care Home, said: “I think it’s absolutely wonderful that Tesco are doing this.

“A television is a necessity, residents enjoy watching their favourite programmes and they have used the garden a lot this year.

“This new furniture means they can still enjoy it.”
