A BRIDAL hair stylist from Greenock who goes to great lengths for her clients has won a ‘top tier’ award.

Lana Fisher was crowned as ‘wedding hairdresser of the year’ at the Scottish VOWS Awards 2016.

The talented 28-year-old, who runs Cameo Bridal Styling, says it’s a huge honour that industry experts have toasted her specialised work.

Lana of Kincaid Court, said: “When they announced that I won, I couldn’t believe it.

“I didn’t expect it at all.

“I want to thank my brides for nominating me.”

Lana, a former Greenock Academy pupil, started working in the hair industry when she was just 13 after securing a Saturday job in a salon.

After leaving school, she fell away from hairdressing for a while after landing a full-time job in retail.

At the age of 22, she re-discovered her love of hairdressing, and started building her own bridal business up while juggling her full-time job.

Lana’s hard work and determination over the past six years paid off when she was able to quit her retail job this year to concentrate solely on her wedding venture.

She said: “So far this year, I’ve worked at 115 weddings.

“This is my dream job, I get to be with people on the happiest day of their lives.

“I end up becoming quite close to the brides because sometimes people have more than one hair trial and I get to meet their families.

“As well as styling their hair, I also dress about 90 per cent of the brides and bridesmaids.

“It just takes the hassle out of it for everyone.

“I also make sure that the timing of the morning is going well and try to keep them calm in any way I can, by opening the champagne and making cups of tea.”

After a busy year, Lana says winning the award at a glitzy ceremony at The Hilton hotel in Glasgow is the icing on the cake.

She added: “After being shortlisted, I was asked to write a business review and I was told that a mystery shopper would assess my business.

“A panel of judges then picked the overall winners.

“It’s a massive honour, as the awards attracted over 11,500 nominations from about 740 companies from across Scotland.”

Lana, who has worked at weddings all over Scotland and travelled to London, is keen to thank her husband Kris, her parents Angela and Allan and her gran Norma for all their support, and she is now looking forward to the future.

Lana said: “I just want to keep the business going, as I love what I do.”
