ROAD safety charity Inverclyde Phoenix Car Club held its 43rd annual Cycle-Safe competitions at Lady Alice Primary School — attracting teams of pupils from throughout the Inverclyde area.

Youngsters were put through their paces on all aspects of keeping safe on the roads, as well as instructions on routine bike maintenance.

Club vice president Robert Ingram said: “The event was a great success and achieved our aim of getting the road safety message over to the most vulnerable age group of cyclists — 10 to 11-year-olds.”

But Mr Ingram also expressed disappointment that only half of Inverclyde’s 20 primary schools took advantage of the training on offer.
