A PENSIONER from Wemyss Bay is warning people about a new scam after being targeted by fraudsters who gained access to his bank account.

The 73-year-old man, who has asked not to be named, was called by someone claiming to be from telephone and internet provider Talk Talk, shortly after being on the phone to a genuine company adviser.

The OAP had contacted the firm last week to resolve an issue with the connection to a new computer he had just bought.

He then received a call shortly before 8.30am from a fake adviser who managed to gain access to his computer before offering compensation for the problems with his services.

The man claims that the bogus caller also got into his bank account through his PC and moved money around as part of a ruse to part with cash.

He told the Tele: “It was all very convincing.

“He said there’s been problems for some months now and wanted to give me £200 back.

“They transferred money from one of my accounts to another to make it look like they had transferred money in before asking for some of it back saying they had overpaid me.

“I thought he was technical staff giving me help with my computer after I’d called up with a problem.

“My card has been stopped and I’ve not lost any money but others might.

“I want to warn people about this, I know a lot of these things are happening.”

The incident has been reported to police and Talk Talk.
