ANIMAL rescue officers are appealing for help to trace the owner of a cat which was discovered in Greenock.

The Scottish SPCA say the black and white female was found in the grounds of the former Ravenscraig Hospital.

Scotland’s animal welfare charity was alerted when a member of the public living nearby spotted the feline who appeared trapped.

The cat, who has now been named Mason, is in the care of the Scottish SPCA’s animal rescue and rehoming centre in Glasgow.

Cheryl Lawless, animal rescue officer said: "A lot of the hospital is condemned but luckily we were able to get to the lost cat.

"She was very thin but otherwise a healthy, friendly girl and is estimated to be 1-2 years old.

"Hopefully someone will recognise Mason and get in touch so we can reunite her with her family.

"If not we’ll find her a nice new home."

Anyone who recognises Mason is being urged to contact the Scottish SPCA’s centre in Glasgow on 03000 999 999.
