A MAN had to be cut free from a car after a crash in Greenock’s east end.
The two-vehicle crash happened at the junction of Ingleston Street and Cartsburn Street just before noon yesterday.
A van collided with a car, and police, paramedics and two fire crews from Greenock rushed to the scene.
Firefighters had to use special cutting equipment to free the male car driver, who was taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital.
Police say the male van driver has been charged with careless driving.
Sergeant James Ruddell at Greenock police station said: “The male van driver has been charged with alleged careless driving.
“The male who was driving the car was taken to hospital for check-ups.” A spokesman at Greenock fire station said two appliances were called to the scene.
He said: “We had to cut the door off to reach the man in the car.”
Police closed the road while the casualty was treated by an ambulance crew.
