IRISH entertainer Gary Gamble is promising audiences in Greenock a double-take with his Daniel O’Donnell tribute.

The singer, comedian and TV and radio presenter is in town next week performing in the Keep It Country Show at the Beacon Arts Centre along with some of Ireland’s most celebrated musicians.

Gary will mix up the singing and dancing with plenty of laughs, including with his acclaimed Daniel O’Double act impersonating Irish star Daniel O’Donnell.

In fact he’s so similar to the real deal that even O’Donnell himself can’t tell the difference.

Gary told Showbuzz: “I’ve met Daniel O’Donnell loads of times, he loves it.

“He says ‘you’re more like Daniel than I am’.

“I was on stage with him a few weeks ago and there must have been two or three thousand folk at it and he got me to open up the show and everybody was laughing because they know me in Ireland for impersonating him.

“He did a thing where we turned our backs to the audience and they had to guess who was singing.

“It was really good craic, he loves it.”

Gary hails from Tyrone and has been an ever-present on the Irish country music scene for 20 years and is also a well-known TV and radio host.

But he thoroughly enjoys getting up close with his audience and has even been known to get folk up on stage.

He said: “I would be an all-round entertainer as they say with a bit of a comedy aspect, I do impersonations, I sing country, dress up as different singers and characters like Elvis and Daniel O’Donnell.

“I have good craic with the audience and go down around them, see them and ask where they’re from and I think people like that and there’s a bit of interaction, maybe get somebody up on stage or something like that.”

Gary will be at the Beacon on Wednesday along with Irish country stars John Hogan, Joe Moore and Cowboy Larry accompanied by band Keltic Storm.

It’s not the entertainer’s first time in town and he’s looking forward to returning to the Beacon.

Gary told Showbuzz: “It’s a brilliant venue and everybody loves it too.

“It’s good for interaction.

“My show has me interacting with the audience and that theatre is ideal for it because you’re so close to the audience.

“It reminds me of some of the theatres back home here in Ireland as well.”
