DETECTIVES investigating an 'horrific' attack in Greenock believe it is linked to a disturbance in a street.
A 25-year-old had his shoulder severed in the early hours of Saturday morning following a serious assault and was found in Nicolson Street.
Investigating officers are looking for witnesses to a fight involving both males and females in the Gael Street and Rankin Street areas.
Detective Constable Brian Connelly said: "We suspect there is a link in the inquiry.
"We had different reports of disturbances in that area from 2pm to 4pm.
"We are appealing for witnesses."
It is understood the victim then made his way to Nicholson Street.
He had to have surgery on his arm following the injuries inflicted by a sharp weapon.
Anyone with information should contact Greenock CID on 101.
