A GREENOCK woman’s precious engagement ring fell off her finger while she was working in Gourock — and was returned by a customer from 240 miles away.

Tatiana Fernandez, 49, who comes from Cuba, lost her diamond ring while she was packing boxes at Amazon’s Faulds Park base.

She and her fiancé, Stuart O’Neil, 52, who also works there, joined colleagues in a frantic week-long search of the cavernous building, which is big enough to cover five football pitches.

They had given up hope of ever seeing the ring again when, a fortnight after it vanished, a woman in Manchester contacted Amazon’s customer services team.

The customer explained that, as well as getting children’s books in a package from Gourock, she was also surprised to take delivery of a glittering engagement ring.

Now the prized possession is safely back on Havana-born Tatiana’s finger.

Tatiana, who came to Scotland to work and met Stuart at Amazon, said she went through a range of emotions when she realised the ring was missing.

She said: “It went from sadness to anger at myself for losing it.

“I honestly thought it had gone forever.

“When our leadership team got in touch to say a customer found it in their package, I couldn’t believe my luck.

“It’s such a relief to get my ring back, and I’d like to say a heart-felt ‘thank you’ to our kind customer for returning the ring to me.”

Stuart, who is in Amazon’s ‘outbound’ section, said Tatiana was very upset when she thought she’d lost her ring.

He said: “We’re so pleased to get it back. The customer who returned the ring has put such a big smile back on Tatiana’s face, and we couldn’t be more thankful for their kindness.”

Manchester customer, Stephenie Healiss, says she is delighted to have played a crucial role in returning the ring.
She said: “I was certainly surprised to find a ring in the package.

“I could tell it had a great deal of sentimental value, and know from my own experience that things like that cannot be replaced. That’s when I decided to contact Amazon.”

Stephenie added: “I’m so pleased it’s been returned safely, and wish Tatiana and Stuart all the very best for their wedding.”

The couple, who live in Greenock, are now planning their big day — with the original engagement ring — proving that diamonds really are forever.
