GREENOCK is to play host to a ‘wedding’ with a difference — as two DOGS get married.

Pooches Diva and Max are set to have their pup-tials at a bizarre ceremony to be performed by a Great Dane ‘minister’ — accompanied by a greyhound ‘best man’ and a Shih Tzu ‘maid of honour’.

The wacky wedding is the brainchild of pals Ann McNeilage and Sandra Harrison, who recently had a TV courtroom showdown on popular programme Judge Rinder over a previously cancelled doggie marriage.

The women will be raising cash for a number of animal charity organisations during the planned six-hour extravaganza at Greenock Cricket Club on September 23.

And they’re looking for as many dog owners as possible to dress up their pets for Shih Tzu Diva and Lhasa Apso Max’s big day.

Ann, 52, told the Tele: “Diva has been dreaming of her wedding day for eight years now, or maybe it’s just me who’s been dreaming about it!

“She has a designer white wedding dress that she’ll reveal on the day.”

Ann, who works as a nurse, added: “Diva and Max met at Pets At Home one day and their eyes just met.

“I said to Sandra, ‘Are you thinking what I’m thinking?’, and she said, ‘Yes’.”

Entertainer Sandra, 55, said: “It is brilliant for charity.

“It brings people together, it brings dogs together and if people want to dress their dogs up and come along, why not?”

The Tele told last December how Ann and Sandra took part in a Christmas edition of Judge Rinder after a previously planned ‘wedding’ between Diva and Max fell through.

Ann, who owns Diva, had made arrangements to hire a marquee but Sandra, Max’s owner, was busy recording an album and the women took part in a spoofed up clash over ‘loss of opportunity’ through alleged ‘negligence’.

However, the big day now finally looms large.

An array of musical entertainment, including a Frank Sinatra tribute act and a ‘Doggie Disco’ have been lined up and entry to the event is only £1.

A number of fundraising pay-as-you-go activities will be available, as well as a bouncy castle for the kids and Judge Rinder star and real-life barrister Robert Rinder has even been invited.

Ann said: “We’ve sent him an email and hope he has the time to come up, but we know he’s a busy man.”

But there won’t be the patter of tiny paws as a result of Diva and Max’s union.

Ann said: “Diva has been dressed, so there’s no chance of pups.”
