ONE of the ‘nation’s finest vocal groups’ is swinging into Greenock.

The Swingcats, a three part harmony group, will pay tribute to the great female vocalists from the jazz and swing era with style and sophistication.

Their acclaimed show ‘Sisters of Swing’ is a tribute to The Andrews Sisters, the famous American close harmony singing group of the swing era.

They also take inspiration from singing stars such as Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee and Nina Simone.

Throughout the evening, the audience will be treated to timeless classics with their unique three part harmony arrangements, accompanied by the Karen MacIver trio.

The group, made up of Alyson Orr, Laura Ellis and Nicola Auld, have fronted some of the UK’s top big bands including The Glenn Miller Orchestra, The BBC Big Band and the RAF Squadronaires, and have also appeared with many international names in jazz including Annie Ross, Carol Kidd, Claire Martin and Martin Taylor.

They recently performed in “We’ll Meet Again” with June Whitfield and the London Concert Orchestra, playing venues all over the UK including London’s Festival Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall and the Glasgow Royal concert Hall.

And their success isn’t just limited to the stage.

So far, The Swingcats have released two albums to huge popular and critical acclaim.

Their last recording “Everybody Wants To Be A Cat” was a hit with audiences and radio stations alike.

They have often been heard on BBC Radio 2 on “The Music Goes Round” with Desmond Carrington, “Big Band Special” with Clare Teal and “Friday Night Is Music Night” with Ken Bruce.

The Swingcats will be performing at the Beacon Arts Centre on Saturday October 7 at 8pm.
