DETECTIVES are investigating a report of a robbery in Port Glasgow in the early hours of this morning.

A 37-year-old man is said to have been assaulted by two attackers and fleeced of his wallet and a three-figure sum of cash.

The alleged incident near the entrance to Port Glasgow Cemetery was reported to Greenock CID at around 1.50am.

Detective Inspector David Wagstaff said: “The male was walking home opposite Fyfe Park Terrace when his nickname was shouted by one or two males who were standing towards the entrance to the cemetery. “They demanded that he hand over a cigarette and other property and when he made to walk away he was kicked and fell to the ground, at which point a wallet and mobile phone were removed from him.

“The males made off in a direction unknown and the other man went home and thereafter contacted the police.”

One of the alleged robbers is described as 5ft7in tall, in his mid-20s, of stocky build with facial stubble and was wearing a full grey cotton Adidas tracksuit with dark blue stripes.

The other man is said to be younger and was wearing a black tracksuit, a green New York Yankees baseball cap and a dark neck warmer. Anyone with information should contact the police on the 101 number.
