FIREFIGHTERS rushed to the scene of a fire in a block of high flats in Greenock on Tuesday night.

The blaze broke out within a property in Broomhill Court at around 6pm.

Three crews from Greenock went into the 15-storey block and were joined by crews from Port Glasgow and Gourock.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “There was a small fire confined to a kitchen in a flat on the sixth floor.

“The occupants were still in the property when the firefighters arrived but they were okay and were taken to safety.

“The firefighters used breathing apparatus and a main jet to extinguish the fire.

“No other residents had to be evacuated.”

The fire service spokesperson said it was fortunate that the property had a smoke alarm.
