CARING Greenock school pupils showed true compassion for others by making up packs to help people recovering from illness.

The thoughtful pupils at Cedars School of Excellence kindly gave up their time to help make up the comfort boxes for the charity Compassionate Inverclyde.

They filled 40 boxes full of essential items which will be handed out to people who live alone and are being discharged from Inverclyde Royal.

Alison Bunce from Compassionate Inverclyde went along to Cedars to visit the young people involved.

She said: "They had been shopping for the items, decorating and packing boxes and they were also making welcome home cards - they were amazing.

"We have delivered 40 boxes up to the store room at the IRH.

"We would lie to thank the children, parents, teachers who have supported this wonderful effort."

Emma Rukin, who teaches social studies at the school, said the young people were determined to use the £300 they raised at their school craft fair last November to help others in need.

She said: "The pupils from primary six right through to S2 hosted a community involvement day with Compassionate Inverclyde.

"They split into groups and went shopping for items for the boxes while other pupils helped to wrap and decorate the boxes.

"They managed to make 40 boxes, which is fantastic."
