A KIND Port woman is helping new mums fight isolation by welcoming them to her toddlers' group.

Mum-of-two Janet Wilson offers parents a friendly place to make new friends at her popular parents and toddlers group.

It is one of the many community groups running in the busy Gibshill Community Centre.

Janet, from Broadstone Avenue, said: "I suffered from post-natal depression myself so I know what it is like when you are new mum.

"Our group gives you a chance to meet other mums and get chatting.

"It can be very lonely when you have a new baby."

Janet is also keen to reach out to parents and support them through the early year by offering a friendly face.

She said: "My son Jack is 10, he has autism and I have a six-year-old daughter Jessica.

"I have not forgotten how hard it can be.

"People can come and talk to me and make new friends. It is a great facility. We have lots going on in the toddlers group."

The Gibshill parents and toddlers group has also reached out to the refugees who have settled in Inverclyde after fleeing conflict in Syria and Afghanistan.

Janet said: "They have been made so welcome and it is great to see them settling in."

The toddlers group is on every Thursday from 10 to noon and all are welcome.
