A GOUROCK children's author proved she had the 'write stuff' when she visited her former school to inspire the next generation.

Megan Murray said it felt wonderful to visit St Ninian's Primary - the place where she first discovered her passion for writing.

The talented 26-year-old, who has just released the second book in her Scottish history series 'Maggie and the Magic Bookcase', spoke to the children about her life and why she decided to put pen to paper.

She told the Tele: "I come from Gourock, I was born and brought up here so to now come back and speak to the pupils is really special.

"I hope to inspire them, not to be an author but to do something which they have a passion for.

"When I was at school, I was inspired by a talk from Cathy Macphail so I hope to do the same."

The wordsmith from Weymouth Crescent released her first book in the series entitled ‘The Prehistoric Prologue’ last year and three weeks ago she released her second book 'Roman Rumpus'.

She added: "Things are going very well.

"I'm working on another book and I hope to get that finished soon.

"I've also been visiting schools all over the country which has been great."

Primary two pupils' Eva Callaghan and Sean Beary were first in line to get Megan's autograph.

Little Sean said: "I've brought my book along to get signed.

"It's really good to meet Megan."

During her visit, Megan spoke to pupils in P5 and P6 classes.

Yazmin Tait, P5B class teacher, said the children were left captivated by Megan.

She said: "A lot of the children are really interested in reading.

"We have a big focus in the school on it, so it's nice for them to see where they can aim for.

"Because Megan is an ex-pupil, it makes it a lot more real for them."
