A FABULOUS football festival kicked arranged by a Port club attracted thousands of people.

The weekend event was hosted by the Port Glasgow Community Sports Club at Parklea and teams from as far afield as Edinburgh and Ayrshire took part.

Margaret Vize, secretary of the girls section of Port Glasgow Community Sports Club, said the tournament was a big success

She said: "It went really well despite the weather.

"We used a room inside and we had a gazebo.

"We had 2,000 visitors to Parklea over the two days.

"We had 13 age groups and everyone invited teams along."

It's the first time the event has been run for a while but it looks set to become a regular fixture on the calendar.

Margaret said: "We used to have the tournament annually but we've not had one for four years."

There were also bouncy castles and bird of prey at the event.

Everyone was a winner and received a medal for taking part.

Mrs Vize said: "It is a good way to promote the club.

"We got great feedback from the visitors.

"It was the first time an Ayrshire club had been to Parklea and they were blown away by how organised it was and the views across the water.

"It was great and something we want to hold again."

Mrs Vize would like to thank Inverclyde Leisure for their help in making the event a success.
