A SUPER school pupil is skipping sixth year and heading straight to university after making history by securing six As in his higher exams.

The numbers stack up for St Stephen's High student David Curley who is now off to study accountancy thanks to his flawless results.

The 17-year-old, from Port Glasgow, is thought to be the first person in the school's history to achieve six As at higher level in just one round of exams.

David not only etched himself into the St Stephen's record books but he also got what he needed to skip his final year and head straight to the University of Glasgow after being accepted onto his chosen course.

He said: "I'm chuffed with the results and pleased that all my hard work had paid off."

Despite mum Angela teaching modern studies at St Stephen's and dad Chris being an Inverclyde councillor, none of David's highers are for social subjects.

Instead, his As were for English, maths, physics, chemistry, music and computing.

Students typically sit a maximum of five highers but David took on music as an extra and hit a high note when his results dropped through the letterbox on Tuesday.

But it wasn't all plain-sailing for the future accountant after a wobbly warm-up for the exams.

David, who lives in Greenock, said: "My prelims weren't as good as I thought they would be so I got my head down and got stuck into past papers and revision."

While most of his friends are preparing to head back to school after the summer holidays, David is looking forward to stealing an early march on his future career.

He said: "I'm going to Glasgow Uni to study accountancy.

"I've been accepted for that and I had to do summer school.

"I have everything I need so there's nothing I need to stay on at school for - I thought I might as well get started."
