GHOST hunters were spooked when police caught them in an abandoned building in Kilmacolm in the early hours of Monday.
Officers responded to a report of several people gathered at the derelict Balrossie School.
They found a group of eight and established they were from five different households and had travelled in three cars from outwith Inverclyde.
The group said they were on a 'ghost hunting expedition'.
They were issued with fixed penalty notices for breaching Covid regulations and one woman was arrested on an outstanding apprehension warrant.
Area commander Paul Cameron said: "This was an irresponsible and dangerous act which could have resulted in harm or injury to themselves and also placed emergency services in danger."
