TALENTED local young artists are going to be TV stars when they appear on the BBC's Children in Need show tonight.

Rig Arts and their 'Arts and Mind' sessions will feature as one of the groups who benefit from the appeal, which brought in £39 million for good causes last year.

Their weekly sessions are funded by Children in Need and have been so popular there is now a waiting list.

Jim Strachan, artist tutor and RIG board member, who leads the sessions with fellow artist Louise Carr, said: "The kids are really excited.

"These classes give so much to them.

"The kids don't necessarily have to draw or sculpt, it's about expressing themselves.

"We do projects and they came in with their own.

"They feel very comfortable and they get to know each other."

Nina McClafferty, nine, from Inverkip, is one of the lucky ones who managed to get a ticket for the live show broadcast from the BBC's HQ at Pacific Quay.

She said: "I'm going to the studio in Glasgow with my mum and my dad and sisters will watch it on TV at home.

"It's really exciting.

"I was interviewed by the BBC and they asked me what I had been drawing and I told them I had been drawing pictures of Pudsey.

"I like the class because I like drawing and art and I really want to be an artist.

"I get to meet a lot of new people in the class and make new friends."

Kacper Walawczyk, nine, who attends St Joseph's Primary in Greenock, said: "I am looking forward to seeing myself on TV.

"Before coming to the classes art wasn't really my thing but now I realise that it is good fun and I have made a lot of friends."

The Children in Need show starts at 7pm on BBC One and the special showcase runs between 10-11pm on BBC Scotland tonight.
