IMPROVEMENTS worth over £60,000 are set to be carried out at a popular park in Kilmacolm following a public consultation exercise.

Inverclyde Council has announced that it will soon begin carrying out works at Birkmyre Park in the village.

It comes after the local authority recently carried out an outdoor spaces consultation seeking people’s views on potential improvements for the area.

Almost 300 responses were submitted and helped influence the improvements that will now be made in the coming months.

Based on the feedback received during the consultation period, four key improvements will be made to the green space.

There will be an extension to the children’s play area, extra seating and new picnic tables, wildflower displays and additional tree planting.

Councillor Michael McCormick, who is Inverclyde Council’s convener of environment and regeneration, said: “Birkmyre Park is one of the many wonderful assets we have in Inverclyde and these improvements will enhance this area even further.

“There was a positive response to the recent public consultation and the feedback from that was used to develop these plans."

Cllr McCormick visited the site to unveil the vision for the park and was joined by ward elected members david Wilson, Stephen McCabe and Chris Curley.

He said: “I look forward to the work commencing over the coming weeks and months and seeing the planning improvements delivered.”

The Birkmyre Park outdoor spaces consultation took place last November and a total of 278 responses were gathered.

There is a budget of £65,000 available for the improvement works.
