THIS week sees International Women's Day in celebration of women's achievements and potential, while also raising awareness against bias and encouraging us all to act for equality. Here are five pictures from our archive featuring International Women's Day celebrations here in our community over the years.

Pic1: Women at Larkfield Community Centre staged their own production of Tony Roper's play 'The Steamie' in 2005. The performance was part of a day of action for International Women's Day. The event ran in tandem with stalls and information points offering advice for career and training opportunities for women.

Pic2: Councillor Vaughan Jones and Provost Robert Moran joined girls from schools across Inverclyde in Greenock Town Hall to celebrate International Women's Day in 2015.

Pic3: Women representing community groups gathered for this picture taken to bring attention to an International Women's Day celebration back in 2004. Events at the celebration included entertainment and workshops on dance, exercise, and relaxation therapies.

Pic4: Television writer Shabana Bakhsh joined Amanda Ptolemey, volunteer development worker, Sharon Sale of Inverclyde Council, and support worker Carol McLaughlin for an International Women's Day information workshop in 2011. Shabana authored a play addressing key issues for women under sponsorship from Strathclyde Police, and it was adopted by them for training purposes.

Pic5: The WOOPI Singers of Inverclyde provided entertainment for a celebration of IWD held in Greenock nightclub WordUp.
