TV cameras are coming to town this week with two Greenock locations set to feature in filming for a BBC crime drama.

Scenes for a new series of Shetland, starring Ashley Jensen in the lead role as Detective Inspector Ruth Calder and Alison O'Donnell as Alison 'Tosh' McIntosh, will be shot at the RAF Club and Tontine Hotel on Ardgowan Square.

Crews from producing company, Silverprint Pictures, will take over the area on Thursday and a temporary traffic restriction order is in place as residents are warned to expect slight disruption throughout the day.

A notification letter said that filming will take place between 7am and 8pm on March 28 and organisers will 'endeavour to minimise the impact filming will have as much as possible'.

The notice states: 'To make this production a success we are keen to establish contact as early as possible directly with all residences that may be immediately affected by our filming works and within our filming boundary.

'To facilitate filming, for the safety of the public and our crew, and in order to park our technical vehicles, Inverclyde Council have granted us a TTRO to suspend parking on Ardgowan Square and Robertson Street.

'Access to all properties will be maintained and managed by our ground crew to ensure everyone's safety during the filming process.

'You may be asked to wait for brief periods if there is production traffic moving on the road. This is purely to ensure that our vehicles can move along the road without causing an obstruction.'

Previous series of Shetland were a dramatisation of the murder mystery novels by Ann Cleeves, however, the upcoming episodes will be part of an original six-part drama based on the same characters as the books.

The BBC recently confirmed a double series commission - Shetland’s ninth and tenth - and filming will be completed in locations on the Shetland Isles and across Scotland in 2024 and 2025.

The letter to Greenock residents adds: 'We would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience filming may cause and to thank you for your co-operation.

'Please be assured it is our intention to cause the least possible disruption to you, and to work safely and respectfully while near your properties during this time.'
