POLICE have launched an investigation after a 50-year-old man was assaulted in Greenock town centre in the early hours of this morning.
The incident took place at around 12.50am on April 7 at the corner of Nicolson Street and West Stewart Street.
Emergency services attended and the victim was taken to hospital for treatment.
Police are now hunting for three men in connection with the incident.
The suspects were all wearing hooded jumpers with the hoods over their heads when the attack was carried out.
Police say one man was wearing a white hooded jumper, and another was wearing a purple hooded jumper.
The suspects headed in the direction of Nicolson Street and Finnart Street after the attack.
Police officers and police vehicles remain at the scene.
Inverclyde police are now urging anyone who witnessed the incident to get in touch.
Detective Constable Jennifer Kane said: "Our enquiries are ongoing and I am appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this incident or have any information to contact us.
"I would also appeal to anyone who was driving in the area and who may have dash cam footage or any private CCTV which could assist to get in touch."
