TWO Greenock women have been acquitted of threatening another female with violence after witnesses failed to appear at court.

Lynn Homer, 49, and Karys Rice, 23, were charged with behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at an address on the town's Millar Street on May 8 in 2022.

Prosecutors claimed they had shouted and swore at the woman, as well as uttering offensive remarks and threats of violence.

Both had pleaded not guilty and were due to stand trial at Greenock Sheriff Court on Thursday.

A fiscal depute asked that the case be adjourned, noting that two essential witnesses - who had failed to attend a previous trial date in November last year – were not present.

Sheriff James Varney said: “This offence dates back to May 2022.

“The witnesses have previously not appeared - it’s concerning from my perspective.”

Sheriff Varney rejected the motion to adjourn and acquitted both Homer and Rice.
