Gourock animal rescuer Allison Black has organised the evening gathering to help our fight to change Scotland’s current wildlife crime law.

The Tele is bidding to close a time bar loophole which allowed the prime suspect for a barbaric killing spree at the minizoo to escape prosecution.

Allison is furious that no one has been convicted for the 2011 attack, which left many animals dead.

A man was arrested and held by police after being linked to the crime through DNA evidence but the case was dropped because the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act prevents people accused of such crimes from being pursued more than six months after they’ve taken place.

Veteran animal welfare activist Allison said: “I am 110 per cent behind the campaign and I will have copies of the petition with me on the night that people can sign.

“Everyone is outraged about this time bar.

“We will not tolerate animal cruelty in this area.

“Mindless is the word to describe what happened to these animals.” Allison held a previous vigil in 2011 when the attack happened, in order to help to buy new hutches and pets for the facility.

She is urging people to bring torches, candles and balloons to next week’s event.

Allison said: “We’re not going to forget, I’m hoping to release 100 balloons into the sky.

“We’re not going to put up with this law — the law has to be changed.

“Animals should have the same rights as human beings for such an atrocity.” The vigil is being held on Wednesday 24 June at 7pm.
