A STUDENT from Greenock has gone off the rails — by organising a fundraising fashion show in aid of a local charity.

Thoughtful Nikki Roberts, 19, is hung up on helping Ardgowan Hospice and has arranged an event at The Albany on Sunday April 23.

It will also help with Nikki’s studies on the media and communications course at the City of Glasgow College.

Nikki, who lives in the west end, has lined up five models for the show and the theme is ‘ladies day’.

There will also be a a variety of stalls, a raffle and live music, with all proceeds going to a charity very close to her heart.

Nikki is combining her love of the media and fashion and hoping for a big turnout from women of all ages in aid of a good cause.

She said: “It’s aimed at women of all ages and it’ll be a nice day out and all the money raised will go to Ardgowan Hospice.

“It’s in memory of my dad but also because it’s a really good cause.

“I’ve been studying at the City of Glasgow College since August — this is part of my final grade — and I’ve always loved fashion so I’m combining both.

“Everything is working out well so far.”

Nikki, who works at The Albany in between her studies, has enlisted the help of Greenock clothes store Utopia and has also roped in local fashion designer Michael Munro to show off his new creations.

Singer Rebecca Keane will also provide live entertainment during the action-packed afternoon at the Orangefield venue.

Nikki said: “There will be about 10 stands in the function suite with skin care products, jewellery, handbags, sweets and the show itself will feature clothes from Utopia, who are bringing in their new range for the summer.

“My friend Michael Munro is bringing out his own clothing line and will be showcasing some of his stuff and Rebecca Keane, who lives in the west end, is singing at it as well.”

The event will be on from 1 to 3pm with the show starting at 2.30pm.

Entry costs £3 and is payable on the door.
