A GREENOCK man was allegedly attacked by a gang armed with weapons within a flat in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The 22-year-old was described as being slashed on the head and arms by up to four men at the address in Sinclair Street. 

He was rushed to hospital at 4am and underwent surgery yesterday.

Investigating officers are appealing for help from the public in relation to the incident.

Detective Constable Scott Clark said: "Those involved were in possession of weapons. We are continuing with our investigations.

"The victim remains in hospital."

A 28-year-old has been arrested and is in custody, expected to appear at Greenock Sheriff Court today.

The rest of the attackers were wearing described by police as wearing 'dark clothing'.
