A HAIRSTYLIST who lost her sister to breast cancer stepped in to help a schoolboy cut off his long locks for charity.

Salon owner Leah Downie came to the aid of 11-year-old Logan Murdoch, who wanted to support children’s cancer charity the Princess Trust.

The former Aileymill Primary pupil decided that he wanted a new look for going to high school and raised £700 for a good cause.

When Leah, who owns Audrey’s in Larkfield, heard about the charity event she decided to help.

Mum-of-three Leah, 35, said: “When I heard what Logan wanted to do I thought it was lovely. I lost my sister Audrey to breast cancer last year and I wanted to help.

“After what happened I liked the idea of this wee boy wanting to help other children.”

Logan went along to Audrey’s with his little brother Conan, four, to have their hair cut for the Princess Trust.

He had been growing his hair for three years and as some close family members have battled cancer he wanted to help.

Logan, who starts Inverclyde Academy in August, said: “I decided to get it cut and I wanted to do it for charity.

“I had heard about the Princess Trust.”

His mum Deborah, 38, said: “I am very proud of Logan for doing this. He is a great boy and so kind and caring.

“He has raised an amazing amount of money.

“I would also like to thank Leah for stepping in to help.”

Leah and her family were left devastated when her sister Audrey lost her battle with breast cancer on July 16 last year aged 39.

Leah, 35, said: “I opened the salon recently in Larkfield and I wanted to do it in memory of Audrey.”

Leah and her family have also raised money for Ardgowan Hospice, who cared for Audrey.

Logan will now send his locks to the Princess Trust, along with the £700 donation, to help children with cancer.
