MORTON fans have the chance to design the club’s home top for next season.

Following the success of the away kit competition earlier this year, which produced the red tartan shirt, fans will be able to submit ideas for the new home strip — and the winner will see their design worn in the 2018/19 campaign.

Hundreds of entries were submitted for the away kit contest, won by fan Peter Fleming after his tartan design topped a supporters’ poll.

Entries will once again be whittled down to a shortlist of 12 which will be printed in the Tele alongside a voting coupon for fans to choose their final four, followed by a public ballot at Smiths of Greenock to select the winner.

Peter said: “It’s been pretty weird coming to games this season and seeing so many people in my tartan top.

“With the design for the new home kit, a lot of people will be traditionalist with hoops but a lot of people talk about the ‘95/96 ‘Argentina’ strip and the pinstripes in the ‘60s.

“I really liked the late-70s one with the Umbro diamonds on the shoulder.

“I’m looking forward to see what people come up with.”

Morton chief executive Warren Hawke said: “It’s the supporters who buy the strips and come along to watch the team play in them so they should be involved in the design from start to finish.”

The competition opens today and deadline for entries is November 10.

Defender Thomas O’Ware said: “It’s a bit different from what other clubs do.

“The tartan strip went well this year.

“It’s definitely one of the best we’ve had.”

Team-mate Gary Harkins added: “It’s good to get fans involved with the club in this way.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the designs and what people come up with.”

The competition is open to everyone but the kit must incorporate the club’s primary colours of blue and white, with yellow optional.

The winner will be presented with the first shirt at the kit launch, while the runners-up will receive a prototype of their design.
