BOSSES at a leading pizza chain are said to have expressed a ‘firm interest’ in opening another takeaway shop in Greenock.

Planning officials have been told that Domino’s are interested in taking up a unit on the site of the former Larkfield Masonic Association hall at Auchmead Road, near Inverkip Road.

Sava Estates already have planning permission for three shops there, but have now lodged an application to increase the size of the shops and add a hot food takeaway.

A document submitted to Inverclyde Council states: “Sava Estates has been in discussions with a number of retail and commercial operators regarding occupation of the permitted retail units.

“These discussions have led to firm interest from Domino’s Pizza and a number of retailers.

“However, all the parties have expressed concern with the size of the units.

“In order to meet their operational requirements, these operators have confirmed they would require larger units than currently permitted.”

It continues: “As a result, Sava Estates is seeking planning permission for a revised scheme on the site which meets the operator requirements.

“The number of proposed units has increased from three to four.

“It is proposed to increase the size of each unit from 74 square metres to 93 square metres.

“On the basis of operator interest, and reflecting market trends more generally, it is proposed that one of the units is occupied by Domino’s Pizza.”

The site was formerly occupied by the LMA hall, which was targeted by firestarters after the premises closed down.
The remains of the building were later cleared.
