A PIPING marathon by Inverclyde’s MSP proved music to the ears of three charities who have shared the proceeds of almost £6,000 between them.

Stuart McMillan handed over cheques to the Andy Adams Fund, Clydeside Action on Asbestos and Cash for Kids following his sponsored tour of all 42 senior Scottish football grounds last summer.

The ‘pipeathon’ last July saw Mr McMillan travel the length and breadth of the country, starting off at Cappielow and finishing at Hampden, playing the bagpipes at every stop along the way.

He completed the quest in just five days and clocked up £5,800 for his chosen charities.

Mr McMillan said: “Pipeathon 2017 was a great adventure.

“I’m delighted to have been able to raise so much for three causes close to my heart.

“Playing the pipes is a hobby of mine and I’ve always wanted to put it to good use.

“I’m delighted that these charities have received their share of the generous donations.”

Generous donors sponsored the piping politician online and handed in money to his Grey Place constituency office.

The Morton-supporting MSP, who is the official Scottish Parliament piper, also raised additional cash by auctioning off football tops and other souvenirs donated by the clubs he visited.

Mr McMillan presented charity cheques at Cappielow after splitting the proceeds equally between all three causes.
