MORTON hope to leave their rivals red-faced next season with their snazzy new scarlet away strip.

The red kit is a major departure from Ton"s traditional blue, white and yellow hues.

But it is already a big hit with captain Stewart Greacen and defender Alex Walker, left, who is modelling the away strip.

Stewart said: 'The two new strips are excellent. The red away strip is smashing and a lot better than the yellow. It"s a nice wee change and hopefully it will be a lucky colour for us. ' The Tele asked fans how highly they rated the controversial new colour.

Dennis Mitchell, 37, of Nelson Street, Greenock, said: 'I"m a Celtic and Morton fan and I like the red strip. The away strip used to be yellow but I would definitely buy this one.' But Port Glasgow Morton fan Mark Rodger was not happy with the new colour.

Mark, 27, said: 'I don"t agree with it. There used to be a tartan one and that was okay. It would be better if the red strip was tartan than just plain red.' James Kirkpatrick, 50, of Greenock, said: 'It"s a wee change from the blue.

'I think it will be popular with the fans, especially the kids.' Greenock teenager Liam Morris said: 'It shouldn"t be red at all because it"s not Morton"s colours.

'It should be white with a bit of blue. Some people will buy it, but I don"t like it at all.' Lauren Findlay, of Prospecthill Street, Greenock, says red is not a colour she would wear at a game.

The 18-year-old said: 'I don"t like the colour at all.

'Morton colours are blue, white and yellow. I don"t see where the red"s coming from. I go to all the games and I wouldn"t wear that round my shoulders.'
