A GREENOCK couple are seeing stars after capturing mysterious video evidence of a possible UFO.

Debbie and Hugh Scobie, from Berwick Road, collected freaky footage of two bright orange lights in the sky above Larkfield on their mobile phone on Christmas Day.

The couple were sitting relaxing on Friday night when Hugh suddenly saw the intriguing illuminations appear in the sky, right across from their house.

Debbie, 40, said: "It was really strange. I wasn't scared by it - it was just so weird.

"There was no noise at all. It was a really quiet night.

"If it was a plane or a helicopter the lights would have flashed and we would have heard a noise. We could see the lights changing colour.

"The more you watch it, the more you think that it could be something out of the ordinary.

"Hugh and I have been joking that it was Santa leaving Greenock for another year." The couple spotted the bright orange circles at around 5.40pm on Friday and rushed out onto their doorstep to get a better view.

Their footage clearly shows two orange lights moving towards each other then apart in the sky.

After several seconds, the light on the left of the screen starts to move away and disappears - but the brighter light stays in the sky.

The couple say that the remaining light was there for another five minutes and then returned again around an hour later. This is the second sighting of a possible UFO in Inverclyde in the last two months.

On Friday 13 November, an object which looked like a floating disc appeared over Coronation Park, leaving members of the public bewildered.

Debbie claims to be sceptical about life on other planets - but says that her Christmas Day experience has made her much more open-minded.

She added: "I wouldn't like to say it was anything extraterrestrial. My mum Joan really believes in all that kind of stuff and thinks that there is definitely something 'out there'.

"It was Christmas night but we hadn't been drinking - Hugh hadn't had anything as he was driving and I had two glasses of champagne.

"I'm just surprised that no one else saw the lights. We're eager to hear if anyone else saw them."
