Lucie to light up Oak Mall

Published: 19 Oct 2011 11:0020 comments

X FACTOR finalist Lucie Jones will switch on the Christmas lights in Greenock's Oak Mall this year.

The Welsh singer, who made the live shows of the TV talent contest in 2009, will be at the shopping centre on Thursday 10 November for the big festive bash.

Lucie will perform several songs while local girl Melissa Murdoch and cool country duo Raintown will also sing to what is sure to be a bumper crowd.

St Andrew's Boys' Club will also be putting in an appearance and showing off their football tops, sponsored by the Oak Mall.

Lucie, from Pentrych in Wales, shot to fame after she amazed judges in her X Factor audition with a fantastic version of Whitney Houston's smash hit 'I Will Always Love You'.

She sailed through the first rounds of the competition, was put into the live shows by her mentor, Dannii Minogue, and was tipped as a possible winner until she was controversially voted out in favour of Irish twins Jedward.

Following her performances on the show, she won a part in Les Miserables at the Queen's Theatre in London, playing the part of Cosette alongside US pop sensation Nick Jonas.

On the day of her Oak Mall visit, Lucie will be joined by top DJs for the official start of the countdown to Christmas from 3.30pm - with the big lights switch on taking place at 5pm.

Her appearance is another coup for the mall after X Factor's Lloyd Daniels wowed crowds during last year's Christmas switch-on.

Who? Why not ask someone local who has done something good for charity or something to do this? Wonder how much they are paying her?

It would be cheaper to get one of the young sh*thead arsonsits doing the rounds of the area at the moment to do the job, I'm sure that they would be more than happy to light the place up.

The oakmall needs more thatn lights at chirstmas, a good start would be some shops, other than card shops and pound shops.

Hello- I'm near Cardiff myself. Believe me, it's the same down here. the local high st is becoming a ghost town, 99pence shop, about 6 charity shops. 3 card shops, a few banks. that's about IT,really:-(

    'PROPER' shops are closing everywhere

Its up to the oakmall if they are the ones organising it n its not comin out of our pockets but it would be nice to see some local talents getting a gig at it too, show of the out people and people who do alot for our community.

and for the people saying benifit scroungers not everybody who is on benefits want to be in the situation of not working just really hard too find a job.

Its not really hard to find a job, the old Tory slogan "Get on your bike"

Move to where there are suitable jobs like I did.

You are not attached to Greenock.

And I think its a nice touch to have someone who is a bit famous who is prepared to go to Greenock, and to all the people who wrote - who ???

Who the f*ck are you. Small town nobodies !!!
