BIG-HEARTED workers ‘tugged’ at heartstrings when they donated their table at the Tele’s glitzy charity gala to Ardgowan Hospice.

The tug boat crews at Svitzer in Greenock Ocean Terminal had booked a table at our star-studded charity gala next month, which features Britain’s Got Talent heart-throb Jai McDowall.

But in an act of kindness, the team have given their tickets to dedicated nurses, volunteers and fundraisers at Ardgowan, who will now enjoy the glittering evening on Friday 22 August, which is in aid of the hospice.

Stephen Morgan, marine officer at Svitzer, says the hospice is close to their hearts.

He told the Tele: “There are quite a few of the guys who already make donations to Ardgowan Hospice as they have personal experiences of some of the services which it provides.

“So the guys asked if it would be possible to book a table and donate it to the hospice.

“They felt that because the hospice does such fantastic work in the community that they should benefit from this.” Hospice chief executive Anne Mills is overwhelmed by the gesture.

She said: “We were deeply touched that a corporate organisation like Svitzer have chosen to support Ardgowan Hospice by donating their entire table at the Telegraph’s Annual Charity Gala night, which we shall use to say a huge thank-you to our younger people, the wonderful ‘adrenaline junkies’ and our nursing staff who work tirelessly to not only support, but raise critical funds for the hospice.” Anne was keen to thank the three tug boat crews — Anglegarth, Ayton Cross and Milford — who donated the tickets.

She added: “We cannot thank the people at Svitzer enough for being so generous. “I would also like to take this opportunity to extend an invitation to visit the hospice and see exactly what Svitzer’s kindness helps to provide to those who so desperately need Ardgowan’s services.” Following a champagne reception at our glitzy gala, guests will enjoy a sumptuous three-course meal before comedian Tam Cowan takes to the stage for his hilarious after-dinner routine.

The audience are also set to be blown away by Jai McDowall, the Scots singing sensation who became a household name after winning TV show Britain’s Got Talent three years ago.

Gorgeous former STV weather presenter and Tele columnist Jean Johansson will host the evening, which also features a charity auction and raffle, where some amazing prizes will be up for grabs.

Tickets are £40 per person or a table of 10 for just £375.
