A PENSIONER was taken to hospital yesterday after he was knocked down on a busy Greenock street.
The 83-year-old man was hit by a car at about 1pm in Westburn Street, near the Oak Mall.
Three police cars and an ambulance attended the scene and the man was taken to Inverclyde Royal, where he was treated for cuts and bruises.
He was kept in hospital overnight as a precaution.
An eyewitness told the Tele that the pensioner was conscious and talking before the emergency services arrived.
The man said: “The elderly man was lying on the ground behind a car.
“A woman had placed cushioning below his head and he was conscious and talking to her.” Sergeant Scott Campbell of Greenock police says enquiries are ongoing.
