A FITNESS craze which is sweeping America has come to Greenock after it helped a local dance queen get back into shape after being hurt in a car crash.

Lauren Hair, who shot to fame when she reached the final of Sky 1’s Got To Dance TV show, has started hugely-popular trampoline-based dance classes after a smash in February left her with several broken ribs.

After recovering from her injuries, the 20-year-old fitness fanatic found that she was struggling to get back to peak condition.

A friend recommended trying a trampoline dance class in Cambuslang and it worked wonders for the dancer and model — so much so that she forked out to buy over 40 mini-trampolines and equipment and went for training so she could take classes herself.

Lauren said: “I broke my ribs in a bad car accident in February and I couldn’t do anything for six weeks, which meant I put on weight. When I went back to the normal routine it didn’t matter what I ate or how much I trained, I couldn’t get rid of the weight.

“Nothing was working.

“Then I heard about this from a few different people.

“It really helped me get back into shape and made me want to start a class so others can try it and benefit from it.

“It’s massive just now in America and it’s starting to catch on over here.” Lauren’s ‘Booty Bounce’ sessions started nearly a month ago and they have been fully booked ever since.

The dancer turned businesswoman is thrilled with the reaction from locals — and the effect the class is having.

She said: “One woman lost nine pounds within a few weeks and another lost 10 pounds but they were obviously eating healthily too.

“I was frightened about starting the business at first because it’s a lot of money to pay out up front for start-up costs and if it didn’t work out I would’ve lost a lot.

“But it’s been a big help for me on a personal level because it gave me something to focus on.

“It also gives you a buzz when women come up and say thanks because they’ve not exercised for so long and you’ve helped them get back into it.” As well as running her own business, Lauren’s dance skills are still in high demand around the world and she remains involved with girl group Gurlesque while also touring with tribute act The Kittycat Dolls.

Next month she will travel to Bahrain and then it’s on to Dubai in October.

She said: “My goal is to have my own school and theatre and get more kids involved in dance.”
